The White House, secretly codenamed "Olympus" by the Secret Service, is in crisis when a group of terrorists attack it with heavy planes and machine guns, then send in a group of death squads who take over the US presidential palace, hijack the president and use it as blackmail to try to control the world.Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), who is sitting in the clerk's office, survives the attack. Banning was originally a Special Forces soldier responsible for the safety of the First Lady and the President of the United States (Aaron Eckhart). But during a routine Christmas mission, his work goes wrong, resulting in the First Lady's death. Banning is then reassigned to civilian duties.The interim government quickly sends American commandos to land at the White House in an attempt to rescue the President, but the rescue plan is repulsed by terrorist-controlled White House defences and the rescue plan fails several times. It looked as if the terrorists were about to succeed in their plot. By accident, Banning survives, makes contact with the interim government and, alone, rescues the President, leaving Banning as the last hope for the whole of America. The former secret service agent relies on his superior skills to save the day in a crisis-ridden White House, taking the lead in rescuing the President's son, freeing the President from his worries and delaying the terrorists' plot to obtain the Cerberus code. After a gruelling battle and a fierce fight, Banning rescues the hijacked President and shatters the terrorists' plot to destroy America with a nuclear bomb...
