After the politician Peter (Chris Noth) is imprisoned for a sex and political scandal, his wife Alicia (Julianna Margulies) is forced to end her life as a "housewife" and support her family. Alicia rediscovered her pre-marriage career as a defense lawyer. As a junior partner in a prestigious Chicago law firm, Alicia is welcomed by her old friend Will (Josh Charles). Will was her law school classmate and named partner of the company. He wanted to see what the once-powerful woman would do in court after thirteen years. Alicia is also flattered and grateful to be mentored by the firm's top litigator, Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski).
