Jimmy (played by Lucas Neff) has no steady job and no place of his own, so he lives with his mother Virginia (played by Martha Plimpton) and father Burt (played by Garret Dillahunt). He accidentally meets the beautiful Lucy (played by Bijou Phillips), and the two fall in love at first sight. However, Jimmy soon discovers that Lucy is a fugitive and is arrested by the police shortly thereafter. Several months later, when Jimmy visits her in prison, he discovers that Lucy has given birth to their daughter. Lucy is soon to be executed, and the responsibility of raising the child falls squarely on Jimmy's shoulders. At a loss, Jimmy brings the baby home, but his family shows no affection for the little one. For the already troubled Chance family, the unexpected arrival of a new family member only adds to their headaches...
