Mike (Gabriel Basso) is a 17 year old teenager who is accused of murdering his father. All the evidence points to the fact that Mike has indeed committed an unforgivable crime, with his fingerprints detected on the knife used to commit the murder, and to make matters worse, Mike doesn't seem to have any intention of speaking up for himself, having said nothing from the time of his arrest until he nears his trial.Richard (Keanu Reeves) is the lawyer tasked with Mike's defence, and everything in the courtroom is stacked heavily against his defence. However, Richard's instincts tell him that Mike is not the murderer and that there is something behind everything. So he enlists the help of his colleague Jenny (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), and the two decide to reopen the case and leave no stone unturned.
