Aftersun is the film debut of Scottish-born, New York-based writer and director Charlotte Wells. Set in the late 1990s, the story follows Sophie, an inquisitive 11-year-old girl, and her young single father (Paul Mosca, "Normal People") as they set off on a vacation together. The two go on vacation together to Turkey, where the minutiae of what happens there may seem mundane, but the conversations that flash by, the ones that are spoken and the ones that aren't, portray the bond between parent and child, and reveal how both parties unwittingly become rocks for each other. Twenty years later, when Sophie grows up to the age of her father at the time of the trip, she recalls fragments of memories from that summer when she was eleven years old. In the space of real images and imaginary memories, the familiar and attentive father gradually reveals the sadness he had not shown to his daughter that year.
