In 2005, NASA discovered an extrasolar earth-like planet and determined that intelligent life might exist on it. In order to make contact with alien intelligence, NASA launched the lighthouse project, which will launch high-powered signals from the deep space communications array in Hawaii. A few years later, the alien spacecraft arrived unexpectedly. The joint Pacific naval exercise fleet in Hawaii was ordered to make contact. The guided-missile destroyer alex (Taylor Kitsch) and two other ships are sent as reconnaissance teams to contact alien ships. They were attacked and lost a great deal of money.
