Bernard Black (Dylan Moran) is the owner of the most ridiculous bookshop in London. His bookshop is a mess, its opening hours are freewheeling and its finances are a mess. Bernard himself was unkempt, tipsy, bad-tempered, with a bullhorn and a broomstick to chase away customers at closing time, and too lazy to order any books to sell. Fran (Tamsin Greg), the female owner of the gift shop next door to the bookstore, often comes to help Bernard and is his only friend. She likes to collect all sorts of weird stuff and her love life is a mess.One day Bernard's accountant ran away. The Berner that did not have accountant calculates account to be mad, met manny when collapse (Bill Bailey). Manny was easy-going and tolerant, and he was popular with Fran and his customers. Bernard is forced by Fran to hire Manny reluctantly, and since then there has been a daily drama of the absurd in Black's bookstore.
