The show is set in a world where ordinary humans and anthropomorphic animals live together, not unlike humans except in appearance. Bojack the horsey (Will Arnett) is a middle-aged star horse who was the star of the hit TV series "crazy pony" when he was young. Now he is the star of the horsey horsey, living with Todd (Aaron Paul) in a villa in LA. In an effort to revive his career, bojack is urged to publish an autobiography by his manager and ex-girlfriend, princess Caroline (voiced by Amy Sedaris). The ghose-written autobiography by Diane (Alison Brie) was an instant hit, which brought bojack back into the public eye and landed him a starring role in a hit movie. Can bojack adapt to the new life?
