At the center of the show is a dysfunctional family, with a brother, Alex Cole (Tommy Dewey), a perpetual bachelor, and a sister, Valerie Cole (Michaela Watkins), recently divorced.Alex has started a popular online dating site, which he himself often uses to meet all sorts of beautiful women. He thinks that sleeping with them will soothe his feelings of loneliness and desperation, but that's not the case. When Valerie decides to start dating again, Alex volunteers to be a 'mentor' to his sister to help her settle into the single life. Both are trying to find their place in the crazy world of dating - both online and off - while finding the true meaning of life. On the other hand, the two live together and co-parent Valerie's adolescent daughter Laura (Tara Lynne Barr). Hilariously, both Alex and Valerie seem childlike, while the pre-teen Laura is more like the 'elder' of the family!
