Infatuating marksman Jackie (Mia Farrow) introduces her impoverished fiance Simon Doyle (Simon MacCorkindale) to work at her friend Linnet Ridgeway's (Lois Chiles) estate. Simon later married Linnet and they went on their honeymoon in Egypt. Angry Jackie followed her to Egypt and harassed her. On the Nile cruise, Linnet found that many of the tourists on board were up to no good, except Jackie. Simon and Linnet were nearly killed when a boulder fell from a tall pillar while they were on shore at karnak Temple. But the murders of Linnet did not stop. Linnet dodged one bullet, but not the next. Linnet's maid Louise (Jane Birkin) and Mrs. Salome Otterbourne (Angela Lansbury), who claimed to have witnessed the murder, were killed. Investigating, detective Hercule Poirot (Peter Ustinov) discovered that almost every tourist, with the exception of Jackie and Simon, had a motive and time to commit the crime. So, who was the killer? How did he carry out the crime? And who pushed the boulder down before?
