The story takes place in a small village in Oxfordshire in the late 19th century. Laura's (Olivia Hallinan) mother is about to give birth, in order to make room for the new baby, the family decides to send Laura to work in the post office of the next town, by living there by the cousin Dokas (Julia Sawalha) care. Laura is a newcomer because of rustic dress up and introverted personality, in the new environment everywhere be squeezed out, fortunately gentle Way cass has been firmly supporting her.The post office's expensive mailing costs make the townspeople angry, until one day, a named Queenie (Linda Bassett) missed the chance to see his brother one last time because he couldn't afford the postage. The tragedy intensified the conflict between residents and the post office.
