Life is a 10-part documentary series produced by the BBC and aired on BBC television from 12 October 2009. It took four years to make and was shot in high definition. Each episode lasts 50 minutes, plus another 10 minutes of filming trivia for a total of 60 minutes. According to The Times, the series cost 10 million pounds, although the BBC has not officially confirmed this figure. 2009 marks the bicentenary of Charles Darwin's birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of The Origin of Species. In commemoration, the film attempts to show the diversity of nature's colorful species and the amazing ways they have evolved to survive.
