When memories are shattered, how do you face life? The protagonist of this film finds himself in such a situation. Leon Shelby (played by Guy Pearce) is attacked by criminals at home, his wife is brutally raped and murdered, and he suffers severe head injuries. Upon waking, he discovers he suffers from a rare form of “short-term memory loss,” able to recall only events from the past few minutes. To keep living and avenge his murdered wife, he relies on tattoos, notes, Polaroid snapshots, and other scattered mementos to preserve memories, gather clues, and launch a difficult investigation. During his investigation, Leonard encounters the vulgar barmaid Natalia (played by Carrie-Anne Moss), who seems to know something of interest to him; and Teddy (played by Joe Pantoliano), who claims to be his old friend but appears suspicious and ill-intentioned. Who can he trust? Natalia? Teddy? Or himself? As the truth unfolds, it is simple yet brutal, and does Leonard have the courage to face it all?
