In 1930, an appalling kidnap case occurred in New York, the mastermind of Casetti with a ransom at large. Five years later, detective Hercule Polo (Albert Finney) crossed the Bosphorus in a boat, and his friend Bianchi (Martin Balsam) arranged to board the Orient Express, headed for London. Early one morning, Polo was woken up by a cry from the next room, No. 10. The train was then forced to stop in Yugoslavia after a snowdrift buried the tracks. Not long after Polo had fallen back to sleep, he was awakened again by the noise. Harriet Belinda Hubbard (Lauren Bacall) claims that the millionaire in Room 10, Rachel (Richard Widmark), has infiltrated her Room 11. At daybreak, Beddo (John Gielgud), Rachel's butler, arrives with drinks, but can't knock on the door of Room 10. The conductor, Pierre Paul Michel (Jean-Pierre Cassel), opens the lock with a key, but there is a chain on the inside. Polo and Pierre pulled the door open and found Rachel in a grave, bleeding from her mouth.
