The film is based on the personal experience of American actor George Hamilton. In 1953, Ann devereux (Renee Zellweger) 's husband, Dan devereux (Kevin Bacon), becomes an instant hit after writing the song my one and only. In a rage, Ann leaves New York with her sons robbie (Mark Randall) and George (Logan Lerman), moving on to Boston, Pittsburgh, st. Louis and Los Angeles, California. Ann kept meeting old friends all the way, intending to find a suitable partner and provide a bright future for herself and her children, until her savings ran out and she ran out of money. All the way, George thought that his mother would eventually bow to his father and return to New York due to financial problems.
