Night nurse Ellen (Hope Davis) has just recently weathered a relationship storm, and after breaking up with her ex-boyfriend, she finds herself in a funk. Understanding her daughter's distress, her mother has a plan and posts a marriage announcement in her place. As a result, this action causes an unexpected response, and a large group of suitors pour into her life. However, after a string of dates, Ellen begins to lose faith in men. To her dismay, many of the dates were filled with mouth-to-mouth scenarios that made her doubt the beauty of love. Working night and day makes her even more addicted to her busy healthcare career, in order to escape the ups and downs of her relationship.Meanwhile, Alan, who works part-time at the aquarium, is an enterprising young man who works half-time. Under the pressure of both school and work, he is struggling to pursue his goals. However, he is also caught up in emotional strife, and just as he is about to accept the advances of a flirtatious female classmate, he discovers that she has already had an affair with a professor. On the road to love, where they have lost many battles, Ellen and Allen meet by chance. Will this encounter bring about a turnaround for them to spend the rest of their lives together?
