Nicholas Nickleby (Charlie Hannam) lost the breadwinner of his family after the death of his father. He, his mother and sister then go to London to try to join his uncle Ralph, who is a profit-oriented man who only wants to get the most out of Nicholas' complacency. Nicholas is then sent to his uncle's best friend, Walkerford (Jim Broadbent), but the children in the so-called school are abused by the Walkerfords. Knowing that his sister Kate's reputation was nearly ruined by his uncle's relationship, Nicholas returned to London and broke off relations with his uncle. Fortunately he was appreciated by the Zereb brothers and got a good-paid job.
