The story of the episode revolves around two fictional British newspapers. One is the Herald, which is worked by the female lead, Holly Evans (Charlotte Riley). As an old-school, left-leaning newspaper with a focus on serious journalism (widely perceived by British audiences as an allusion to the real-life Guardian), the Herald faces plummeting sales and a shrinking audience in today's Internet age. The other newspaper in the play is the Post, which focuses on gossip and populist news. Under the leadership of editor-in-chief Duncan Allen (Ben Chaplin), the paper thrives on eye-catching news that is always skirting the ethical line.
