Dr. Jones, a salmon expert (played by Ewan McGregor), works for the British Fisheries Department. Midlife crisis has left him feeling bored and exhausted with life. One day, Dr. Jones suddenly receives an assignment that seems like a fairy tale. A wealthy Yemeni sheikh contacts Dr. Jones through his young secretary, Harriet (played by Emily Blunt), hoping to leverage Dr. Jones' expertise to help him fulfill his dream of fishing for salmon in Yemen. Meanwhile, the British government discovers the immense political significance of this plan, prompting the Prime Minister's spokesperson (played by Kristin Scott Thomas) to enthusiastically join in. As the project progresses, a subtle change occurs between Dr. Jones and Harriet. But faced with his lifelong wife and his boyfriend returning from war, what choices will Dr. Jones and Harriet make? How will this cross-border plan change with the British government's involvement? Will the sheikh's dream of fishing for salmon in Yemen ultimately succeed?
