Jack Black plays Dewey Finn (Jack Black), a 30-year-old rock musician who is still fighting for his dream. As a result, he has parted ways with numerous bands, has lost his career and is facing eviction from his landlord.Ned Snebury (Mike White), Dewey's landlady and old friend, was once a rabid death rocker, transformed into a family man and substitute teacher. When Dewey was idle at home, he accidentally received a call from a middle school recruitment, the other party invited Ned to quickly come to the school substitute.
