After graduating from high school, Rico (Casper Van Dien) is encouraged by his girlfriend Carmen (Denise Richards) to join the Mechanised Infantry Academy against his father's wishes, and Carmen joins the Naval Academy.Shortly after their training, Earth is attacked by insects from an alien planet. All of Rico's relatives are killed and Carmen transmits the images she has captured to Rico. Grief-stricken, Rico leads his men into battle against the alien insects.However, the army underestimates the strength of these insects. In an encounter, 100,000 troops were killed, leaving Rico, Carmen and a few others to escape. Having witnessed the horrific killing, Rico accidentally learns the secret of how intelligent and powerful these insects have become. Rico realises that more advanced weapons must be created to deal with these insects and the human fight back begins!
