The pretty and cheerful Sarah (Charlize Theron) is keen to invest in "short term" love for a month. A number of men come and go with her, but after the month is up, Sarah decisively discontinues the relationship. Nelson (Keanu Reeves), an advertiser, becomes one of these men. He has a busy day job and no fun in his life. Sarah offers to move in with Nelson and be his "lover for a month" to bring some sunshine into his life.At first, Nelson is surprised by this woman's behaviour. But he finally accepted the offer and moved in with Sarah. The two live as a couple, with Sarah's warm personality giving Nelson's heart a new lease of life and making him fall in love with her with all his heart. However, the contract is only for one month and at the end of that time, their lives will be separate. As the day of separation draws near, Nelson feels a strong sense of sadness and, to his surprise, he learns a big secret about Sarah, the cruel truth behind her one-month relationship.
