The novel The Color Purple, written by Alice Walker, will be brought to the big screen again, this time possibly as a musical cabaret movie, which the studio says will be based on the Broadway musical The Color Purple. Steven Spielberg will produce the new version of The Color Purple, and the musical's producers Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones, and Scott Sanders will also work on the movie. The studio says it is still in the process of finding a screenwriter, and that the cast and start date are being negotiated.
