A series of three episodes of "The Elegant Universe" explores one of the major discoveries in 20th century physics - String Theory - and introduces the development of String Theory from Einstein to modern times. "String Theory" refers to the fact that the universe originally had eleven dimensions, and then an explosion caused some of them to shrink into the space of elementary particles, resulting in gaps in astrophysics' observations of the heavens.
