Robert McNamara was a World War II field commander, the first non-Ford president of the Ford Motor Company, and secretary of defense in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. Documentary filmmaker Errol Morris's "Fog of War," based on nearly 24 hours of interviews, looks at McNamara's life, particularly as he assisted General Curtis Lemay in the devastating mass bombing of 67 Japanese cities, including Tokyo, during World War II. Helped the Kennedy administration deal with the Cuban missile incident and negotiate the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Vietnam before president Kennedy was assassinated. Morris identifies 11 lessons from McNamara that will guide future governments in how to handle military disputes and how to prevent a devastating nuclear war.
