Cassel (Johnny Depp) is fascinated by collecting rare and bizarre books. This talent is much appreciated by the wealthy Barkan (Frank Langella). He assigns Cassel the difficult task of finding an ancient book called The Ninth Gate and authenticating the one he has. There are only three copies of this book left in the world, and the remaining two, in Portugal and France.Legend has it that by reading through this book, one can summon the devil to come. Cassel embarked on a tortuous and magical search. He visits the wife of the book's original owner, an expert in the restoration of ancient books, and a mysterious woman with green eyes, during which his friend's violent death is mirrored by the book's illustrations, and the murders continue. It turns out that the books carry a spell that will, it is feared, save all those who possess them. And if the three books come together, the evil Satan will be ushered in. And does the devil's face appear in the end or not?
