Set in New York City in 1994, Luke (Josh Peck), like most rebellious youths, has seen his relationship with his family hit rock bottom, and spends his days wandering the streets selling marijuana for spare change. Like most psychiatrists, Squires (Ben Kingsley) has a long list of problems of his own, and the only thing standing between him and Luke is marijuana - Squires provides Luke with psychiatric care, and Luke returns the favour with marijuana. Being in the same boat, over time a wonderful trust and friendship develops between Luke and Squalls.Luke has always had a crush on fellow classmate Stephanie (Olivia Thirlby), while the outwardly cheerful and optimistic Stephanie also has a crush on Luke. What Luke doesn't realise is that Stephanie's unrelated father is none other than his "old boss", Squires, and a tumultuous relationship unfolds that has its share of laughs and tears.
