Evan (played by Ben Stiller) is the manager of a local store and actively involved in community affairs. However, the store's security guard is murdered under mysterious circumstances, and the local police show little interest in investigating the case. Evan's life is thrown into disarray, and he resolves to uncover the truth on his own. Evan turns his attention to his neighbors and forms a neighborhood watch group with Bob (played by Vince Vaughn), Franklin (played by Jonah Hill), and Jax (played by Richard Ayoade), who are also struggling with their own lives. They patrol the town daily, occasionally indulging in some reckless behavior under the pretext of their duties. During a patrol, they accidentally discover a strange metal sphere. At the same time, several mysterious deaths occur in the town. The watch group subdues an alien creature that attacks them and learns that aliens have invaded the town, stealing human bodies to disguise themselves as humans and launch their attack. The patrol team realizes that action is urgent but feels like they're groping in the dark, as anyone in the town could be an alien. What's even more terrifying is that the aliens' ultimate goal is to destroy the entire Earth. Can the patrol team, armed with only their four members, thwart the aliens' plot...?
