In the 1980s, Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), a genius in electronic softwares, created InCom, which brought mankind into a whole new era. But shortly after the glorious era was created, Kevin mysteriously disappeared. After this, Kevin's young son Sam (Garrett Hedlund) succeeded his father's position, the actual work is presided over by other staff. Sam is bright and adventurous, and often gets into trouble with the executives at InComm. One day, he learns that a message from his father is coming from a long-abandoned studio. Sam goes to investigate, and ends up in a fully digital virtual world. The controller of this world, Crewe (Jeff Bridges), has the same appearance as his father, but is ambitious and evil. Sam is forced into a conspiracy-filled electronic battle for supremacy...
