Arthur's (Terence Stamp) wife, Marion (Vanessa Redgrave), is terminally ill, but keeps participating in the town's senior choir. This choir, organized by young music teacher Elizabeth (Gemma Arterton) after work, is not only a good place for the town's elderly to spend time, but also an opportunity for them to make new friends. But the stubborn Arthur doesn't support or understand Marion's singing, he just wants his wife to stay home and recover. But Arthur could not resist Marion, and even in the last days of her life, Marion participated in the choir competition as she wished. The town's senior choir passed the preliminary round of the competition, and Marion died peacefully afterwards. Although Elizabeth and the other seniors try to help Arthur out of his grief, the stubborn Arthur not only turns them away, but even speaks ill of his own son James (Christopher Eccleston).
