After his third bout with leukemia, 12-year-old Sam stopped going to school and staying in the hospital for chemotherapy. Instead, he spent the last year of his life with a nurse delivering platelets to his home to watch the disease progress. Sam has a wheelchair-bound companion, Felix (Alex Etel), who is also terminally ill. The parents of the two boys had specially hired tutors to help them arrange daily study activities.
