Thirty year old Carl Allen (Jim Carrey) has nothing to worry about, but his life is a failure. He divorced his wife three years ago and has been living a single life. He works in a bank, but he's basically waiting to die, with no chance of promotion. In his life, he refused to socialize with others, preferring to stay at home and watch movies. His whole life seemed to be shrouded in a gray fog. At the suggestion of a friend, Carl consults with an institution called Mr. Nice Guy and, guided by his mentor Terence Stampstamp, tries to answer every question in his life in a positive way. This small change turns Carl's life upside down. Honor, money, opportunities, and love ensue one after another. While he is full of confidence, he discovers that life is not as simple as he thought...
