This film is based on real people and events. Bobby (Ryan Kelley) is a kind-hearted, devout teenager with a loving family. But that changed when he confessed his sexuality to his family. Mother Mary (Sigourney Weaver) thinks gays will go to hell, try to correct their son. Bobby's pain grew with each passing day. Bobby met David, a cheerful young man, before his 20th birthday, but Mary refused and was ashamed to have a gay son. Bobby left home sadly and finally chose to die to end his torment. His death was a wake-up call for his family, especially Mary, who, in her endless regrets, came into contact with the gay community, joined the PFLAG group, and discussed bible interpretation with the clergy. After reading her son's diary, she came face to face with her identification with him. A mother who lost her son burst into tears in a downpour that washed away stubbornness, prejudice, and incomprehension. Mary devoted her life to the cause of gay rights, helping teenagers like Bobby.
