Dave (Adam Sandler) has a mild-mannered demeanor and a beautiful girlfriend, Linda (Marisa Tomei). But he loses his temper on a flight and is sent for "emotional management" training. Buddy (Jack Nicholson), the psychiatrist in charge of the program, is a bit of a nutcase himself. He is the founder of the Mood Management Theory and Treatment Center, a best-selling book on the subject. The center's patients are all eccentric, and Buddy constantly pushes Dave to do things that border on insanity, making Dave feel as if he's being driven crazy, if not insane. And the court thinks Dave's progress is too slow to send him to jail. Pushed to the brink of extinction, Dave has to endure Buddy's stimulation therapy, Dave feels that his limit is coming, he hesitates between the two choices of retreating and closing himself off, or bravely facing his full self. ......In the end, Dr. Buddy and patient Dave's adjustment will be the darkness, or fall into the endless inner black hole?
