When it is discovered that a huge meteorite is heading towards Earth and will hit the planet within 18 days, NASA comes up with a way to stop the meteorite from colliding with the Earth and causing the destruction of mankind: send people to land on the surface of the meteorite, drill a hole through the core of the meteorite, and put in a nuclear bomb to detonate it. But it must all be done in 18 days.The oil rig foreman (Bruce Willis) is entrusted with the task, and his subordinate (Ben Affleck) happens to be the boyfriend of his daughter (Liv Tyler), whose happiness for the rest of her life is at stake in the success of this mission. To this end, he and his subordinates undergo intense training by NASA, with a view to transforming themselves from well-drilling workers into world-saving heroes overnight.
