Dole (Samuel L. Jackson) is a disillusioned black businessman who struggles to secure a home loan so he can get custody of his children. At an Alcoholics Anonymous sharing meeting, he can't hide the joy in his heart and his words are emotional. Kevin (Ben Affleck) is a white lawyer for an art foundation who has helped a wealthy man with his charitable donations. But when the old man dies, he purges the foundation of its old members one after another at the behest of his bosses, a move that is seen as a betrayal by the old man's heirs, who take him to court with a lawsuit.At this very moment, a car accident makes Dole and Kevin meet. Because of taking each other's documents by mistake, the two men's destinies change. Because of the missed appointment, Dole's child is sentenced to be raised by his wife, and from then on it is rare for father and son to see each other. And Kevin is also cornered in the courtroom, into a crisis of confidence. It's then that the two men realize that confronting each other will only make things worse, but the path from enemy to friend is thorny...
