Based on chinese-american chef Eddie Huang's memoir, "fresh off the boat," the one-shot sitcom centers on a Taiwanese family who came to Orlando in the 1990s to settle there. The son of Taiwanese immigrants, Mr. Huang grew up loving everything about America, especially hip-hop. His father was still well integrated, but his mother was often confused by white culture. His father, who ran an all-american chain of steakhouses, dreamed of the "American dream" with the family. At the same time, they also try to maintain their national cultural identity and ensure the integrity of their families. The show's title, "fresh off the boat," is a colloquial term that generally refers to a new generation of immigrants who come to the United States to pursue the "American dream."
