In 2003, the war in Iraq broke out. Saddam's government is devastated, and weapons of mass destruction (WMD) become a powerful excuse for the US to send troops into Iraq. A team led by Roy Miller (Matt Damon) is ordered to search for the WMD in Iraq, but numerous searches have turned up nothing, leading Miller to wonder about the source of the tip-off. During an operation, he meets a local one-legged man, Farhadi, who tells him that a group of key Iraqi figures are meeting somewhere and accidentally discovers that Al Rawi (Yigal Naor), who is wanted on a poker card, is among them and seems to have intricate ties to the US government. Against all advice, Miller launches an independent investigation and discovers that the so-called WMD is nothing more than a lie hiding a myriad of ugly truths ...
