Connor (Keanu Reeves) is an idle gambler who is interested in whatever he can get his hands on to make him throw money at it. But Connor isn't particularly lucky, which is a fatal flaw for a gambler, and after a series of losses, Connor is in debt. When he tries to borrow money from his friend Tiki (John Hawkes), the latter makes a request to lend Connor the money himself if he can travel to the Chicago ghetto and coach a baseball team there.Connor has no choice but to take on the task. At first, the kids in the ghetto give Connor a headache, but as time goes on, their tigerish anger and exuberant vitality make Connor begin to reexamine his own mess of a life.
