Harry Brown (Michael Caine), a retired Royal Navy officer in his 70s, lives alone in a small flat near a slum after his wife dies and he lives on a pension. The neighbourhood's pedestrian tunnels are the scene of street fights, drug deals and flesh trade between punks, and old man Leonard (David Bradley), a good friend of Brown's who plays chess, is often harassed and even brutally murdered by the gang. The female police officer Frampton (Emily Mortimer) and her subordinates investigate the case but have to release Leonard's killers due to lack of evidence. But when the evidence is insufficient, she is forced to release Leonard's killer, and at an early age, Brown decides to take matters into her own hands and avenge Leonard's death.
