A man in sunglasses (Keven Spacey) who calls himself Plot suddenly appears at New York's Central Park Station. He claims to be from the planet K-PAX, a thousand light-years from Earth near the constellation Lyra, and has come to Earth for an expedition at FTL. Plot is admitted to the Manhattan Psychiatric Hospital as a mental patient and is treated by Dr. Mark Powell (Jeff Bridges). Mark believes that Plot is delusional, but is skeptical of Plot's strange behavior and incredible astronomical knowledge. Meanwhile, Prot's arrival creates a sensation among the other patients in the hospital, all of whom want to be chosen to return to the K-PAX planet with Prot. Dr. Mark does his best to find out Plot's true identity, but he never expects to be more and more convinced by Plot's theories in the process. What is Prot's true identity?
