Washington police officer Alex Cross (Morgan Freeman) is a counseling specialist for the police. He suddenly receives news that his niece, who attends school in the small town of Durham, North Carolina, is missing. In an effort to find his niece, Alex decides to find out what's going on. However, when he arrives at the local police station, Alex realizes that a number of teenage girls have disappeared in a row, and his niece is just one of the victims, and they are all smart and beautiful girls without exception. Kate McTiernan (Ashley Judd), a female doctor who escaped death, is the only girl to make it out, remembering only the murderer as a psychopathic killer who wore a mask and called himself "Casanova". Kate provides Alex with many valuable clues, but the cunning "Casanova" never shows up and remains at large. A long and arduous hunt begins.
