Dagenham, England, 1968. The ford motor plant is certainly the leader of the British private sector. In the male-dominated auto industry, however, women are particularly underrepresented. One hundred and eighty-seven sewing girls sweat through car seat cushions on the factory floor in appalling conditions. Dirty, sweltering working conditions, long hours and, most importantly, wages squeezed into the bargain because of their gender. But to make ends meet, these women have been enduring the injustice. Finally, they decided to take to the streets with banners, strike against gender discrimination at work, and demand equal pay for equal work.Rita oglendi (Sally Hawkins) is undoubtedly the leading figure in the fight for women's rights. With extraordinary courage and continuous attempts, rita led many women on the road to rights. Soon, the strike swept the country and became the trigger for the introduction of the "fair pay act" against gender discrimination.
