The revenge revolves around Damon and Affleck's best friends. Norman knight Jean de Carrouges and squire Jacques Le Gris were best friends. Jean returns from the war and accuses Jacques of raping his wife, Margerite de Carrouges(Comer). When no one believed what had happened to the woman, Jean petitioned the King of France to reverse the decision to defend Jacques' count Pierre D 'Anencon. The king decided to let the two friends fight to the death. It will be god's will that the man who lives will be the winner. If Jean fails, her wife is burned as punishment for her "false accusation" against Jacques.
