Teenager Nigel Slater (Freddie Highmore) mother is never a good cook, even simple boil soup can not, a family of three most often eat toast. When my mother died after an asthma attack, my father had to replace her with canned food. Later, the kitchen cleaner (Helena Bonham Carter) catches his father's stomach and becomes his stepmother. The growing hostility led Nigel to take a home office class and learn to make sweets to challenge his masterful stepmother. Every day my father had to put up with constant bickering between them and was forced to eat two endless desserts made one after the other.
