A former tennis player, Bobby (Sean Penn) has recently been plagued by bad luck, first having his finger chopped off by a gambling debt, and then having his car break down in the remote town of Soubirous on his way to Las Vegas to pay off his debt. However, little did Bobby know that his bad luck was just beginning.In Soubirous, Bobby is first blackmailed by a car mechanic who holds his car against his will; then he is robbed in a shop; and finally, he is pestered by an unidentified young man who says he is having an affair with his girlfriend while he is having a drink in a bar, and they even get into a fight. It is at this point that Bobby meets a mysterious beauty named Grace (Jennifer Lopez). While they are having a good time, they bump into Grace's husband Jack. Surprisingly, Jack asks Bobby to kill Grace! With one strange thing after another, what will happen to Bobby, who is completely baffled?
