Jack (Michael Keaton) is an accomplished musician who has achieved great success in his career, which means that he has sacrificed most of his time with his family, and Jack's son Charlie (Joseph Cross) has been sullen about it. One day, Jack returns home and builds a big snowman with Charlie. Jack gives Charlie a harmonica and a promise is made between father and son.As Christmas approaches, Jack is determined to spend the holiday with his family, but on his way home, he is involved in a serious car accident that kills Jack. The grief and despair of losing his father overwhelms Charlie, and throughout the year, Charlie's family lives in a sad and depressing atmosphere. He builds a snowman and plays the harmonica given to him by his father, hoping that his father will return to him again as he promised.
