In the 1960s, the American professional baseball world was full of talented players. Roger Maris (Barry Pepper), a young player living in Missouri, was a star performer and eventually got the chance to move to the New York Yankees, where the best of the best were. The Yankees' leading pitcher is Mickey Mantle (Thomas Jane), who is a friendly, supportive pitcher who makes all his teammates feel good about themselves. But due to a painful experience in his early years, Mickey has developed a habit of debauchery. He rents a fancy hotel suite and spends his days in drinking and sex, and his career is in serious jeopardy. In order to help Mickey regain his virility, Roger will receive him to his own apartment, back to normal life.
