The story takes place in Provence, France, which is famous for its intoxicating scenery. Max (Russell Crowe), a London stockbroker, arrives here as the heir to an estate. Although his career is at a low point, his late uncle has left him a large vineyard and a large house, which he can sell for a handsome profit.During his stay here, he chates with a woman from a local coffee shop, Fanny (Marion Cotillard). As a child, Fanny had been Max's playmate when he visited his uncle's house. Fanny opens the door for Max to go back to his forgotten past and stop playing with numbers and money. Max lets his heart breathe in this beautiful land, and his old life of fame and fortune recedes. When his uncle's illegitimate daughter (Abbie Cornish) arrives from California, she has a clear goal: to get the inheritance of the vineyard, is Max's newly quiet life starting to fight again, or is it just good days in Provence?
