After the Battle of Gallipoli in World War I, Connor (Russell Crowe), an Australian agriculturalist, travels to Istanbul, Turkey, in an attempt to locate the remains of his three sons who were killed in action. Even though he is initially thwarted by the military, he perseveres and is assisted by Elsa (Olga Kurylenko), a hotel hostess in Istanbul, and a Turkish officer who fought against his sons.
